Alternatively, have a look through the information below.
Ingrowing toenails occur when the edge of the toenail grows into the surrounding nail tissue.
The skin becomes very red, swollen and tender and can sometimes become quite infected. Other symptoms may include pain if pressure is placed on the toe, inflammation of the toe, an overgrowth of skin surrounding the toe known as hypo granulation, bleeding or pus.
It is very important to ensure an Ingrowing toe nail is treated as soon as possible if you are a diabetic.
Ingrowing toe nails can occur for a number of different reasons such as cutting the toe nail incorrectly, wearing tight fitting shoes, through injury or due to the natural shape of the toenail.
Ingrowing toe nails can be treated at Prestwich Gold Standard Foot Clinic in Prestwich Pharmacy, if the ingrowing toe nail isn’t too severe it can be conservatively managed by a podiatrist who will be able to remove the spike of nail that is ingrown.
If it is quite a severe ingrowing toe nail you may require a surgical procedure to remove either part of the nail, or the whole to prevent the ingrowing toe nail from reoccurring.

Shockwave Therapy could well be your non-surgical option to fighting pain.
What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive therapy where a handheld device moves over a conductive gel sending waves of energy to painful areas. These waves of energy interact with tissue causing overall medical effects of:
In many instances there will be an immediate reduction in pain as well as an improvement in mobility and function.
What conditions does Shockwave Therapy treat?
Tailored foot care
We provide tailored foot care for all your children’s needs from verruca, in growing toe nails to the provision of insoles for developmental foot problems such as flat feet, club foot or limb length discrepancies.
Prestwich Gold Standard Foot Clinic specialises in paediatric care ensuring your child is kept at ease whilst visiting our clinics which can be a stressful time for a worried child.
It’s especially important to look after your feet if you have diabetes.
Diabetes can reduce the blood supply to your feet and cause a loss of feeling known as perepheral neuropathy. This can mean foot injuries don’t heal well and you may not notice if your foot is sore or injured.
“The risk of complications can be greatly reduced if you’re able to bring your blood sugar levels under control,” says foot specialist Mike O’Neill.
“Ensure that your blood pressure and cholesterol levels are also monitored and controlled with medication if needed.”
We can make sure that you:
- Have your toenails cut regularly
- Get corns or hard skin treated
We can help if:
- you notice breaks in the skin of your foot, or discharge seeping from the wound
- the skin over part or all of the foot changes colour and becomes more red, blue, pale or dark
- you notice extra swelling in your feet where there was a blister or injury
- there is redness or swelling around an ulcer
Plantar fasciitis
Heel pain is extremely common, most heel pain is caused by plantar fasciitis. However it can also be caused by a stress fracture, tendonitis or arthritis.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes. In this condition, the fascia first becomes irritated and then inflamed, resulting in heel pain.
The most common cause of plantar fasciitis is over excursion. Plantar Fasciitis can also become prominent due to an underlying biomechanical issue such as somebody who has a high arched foot profile, flat feet or who is pronating. Unsupportive footwear can also be a contributing factor.
Plantar Fasciitis treatment is very effective, to find out more information please get in touch with our Foot Clinic.
Verrucae treatment
Verrucae are plantar warts that commonly occur on the soles of the feet or around the toe area. They are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is highly contagious through direct person to person contact.
In the first instance, avoid touching or scratching it as it may spread. In many cases, evidence suggests that verrucae will disappear of their own accord within six months for children but longer for adults (up to two years or more).
If you are worried about your verrucae and/or self-treatment not working and/or the verrucae appears to be getting larger or more painful, please visit Prestwich Gold Standard Foot Clinic. There are a few treatment plans available depending on the location, size and severity of pain of the verrucae. All treatments will depend on a full assessment of your general health and well-being.
With verruca needling the podiatrist will carefully needle the verruca (under local anaesthetic) to implant the virus into the dermal layer of the skin so that the body’s immune system can come into contact with the virus. This creates a controlled inflammatory response which stimulates the body’s immune system to recognise the virus and destroy it; this can be very helpful in resolving verrucae elsewhere on the feet and it is highly effective even for long-standing verrucae.

What is
fascial manipulation?
What is Fascial Manipulation Therapy (Stecco method)?
Fascial Manipulation Therapy (Stecco method) is a worldwide evidence-based therapy for treating musculoskeletal pain. One of our experienced practitioners will establish restrictions in the fascia that may be present through movement verification and palpation.
Once established the practitioner will manipulate the densified areas by applying pressure to specifical anatomical points of the myofascial system. This restores normal glide within tissues which reduces pain and restores movement. Although uncomfortable, patients will likely feel an immediate reduction in pain / increase in range of motion.
