Ear wax removal using micro suction and TympaHealth camera technology

Ear discomfort? Hearing problems?

Our expert technicians use micro suction and a camera to remove wax from your ear canal as gently as possible, with impeccable results.

We'll even show you what's going on in there!

The camera allows us to easily take photos inside your ear before and after treatment so you can see the progress.

(unless you'd rather not see...)

Problems that can be associated with wax accumulation can include: hearing loss, ear pain, itching, odour or discharge, and dizziness.

What our clients had to say

"Very happy with the result"

Had a very good experience at Prestwich Pharmacy, I had wax removal on my ear and was very happy with result and the advice I was given, I would highly recommend this Pharmacy.

"Would definitely recommend"

Attended the pharmacy for blocked ear which is just one of the many services provided. I was seen at the appointment time and was provided expert advice, and had micro suction done on the blocked ear to remove excess wax that was the issue. The room was nice and clean, and everything was done to a high standard. Overall I was very satisfied after my visit and would definitely recommend.

"Above and beyond"

Excellent. Phil the pharmacist went above and beyond what I might have expected getting me back several times to check on infection clear up and subsequent micro suction.

SYMPTOMS EAR WAX

After all, it could just be wax!

25% of the population have a moderate to severe ear wax issue that requires medical intervention.

However, accessing ear and hearing health services can often be difficult and time consuming.

Many people have to wait months for treatment, or simply resign themselves to living with their condition, unaware that they could receive treatment at their local pharmacy.

That's where we come in!

The loss of hearing has huge implications for social isolation, quality of life and the safety of individuals.

However, it is not uncommon for people to wait 5-7 years before seeking help for a hearing loss.

By attending regular ear and hearing health check-ups you could prevent permanent hearing loss.

Help us to help you

We ask you to use olive oil for 7 days prior to the ear wax removal appointment, this is to make removal easier during the micro suction as no lubricant is used on the day.

Some practitioners use Otex during, but this can irritate the skin in the ear canal and make it tender, which is why we don’t follow that practice

causes of ear wax buildup: overproduction, narrow ear canals, impaction, medication, cotton buds
CAUSES EAR WAX BUILD UP

What is

ear wax?

Ear wax, also known as cerumen, is a natural substance that helps to protect your ears from dirt, dust, and bacteria. It is made by glands in the ear canal and is slowly pushed out by tiny hairs. However, sometimes ear wax can build up and cause problems.

What causes ear wax to build up?

Overproduction of ear wax: Some people simply produce more ear wax than others.

Narrow ear canals: People with narrow ear canals are more likely to experience ear wax build up.

Cerumen impaction: This is when ear wax hardens and blocks the ear canal.

Foreign objects in the ear: If you put something in your ear, such as a cotton swab, it can push ear wax further into the ear canal and cause a blockage.

Certain medications: Some medications, such as aspirin and steroids, can make ear wax more likely to build up.
